Prof. Dr. Michael Burmester
He teaches as professor for ergonomics and usability and is head of the usability laboratory at the university of applied sciences (Hochschule der Medien) in Stuttgart, Germany. Furthermore, he is manager for the field research and innovation at the usability consultancy User Interface Design GmbH in Stuttgart.Current research focus is on emotional aspects of human computer interaction, advanced methods for user centred design, persuasive technology, and design of devices and information appliances.

He started his career as a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) in Stuttgart. In 1997, he joined Siemens Corporate Technology . User Interface Design as a usability consultant and researcher for usability engineering. From March 2000 until August 2002, he has been head of the Munich office and head of the Usability Engineering department of User Interface Design GmbH.

Claudio Dondi
Claudio Dondi, born in Modena in 1958 and an industrial economist as a university background, is the president of SCIENTER - a non-profit research organisation based in Bologna and active Europe-wide in the field of innovation of education and training systems - since its establishment in 1998. In this position his main activities are the coordination of large national and European projects, as well as policy advice and evaluation at regional, national and international level. His other positions include: Professor of Human Resource Development at the College of Europe in Bruges (1998-2003), Member of the Board of the MENON EEIG in Brussels, Member of the Editorial Boards of the British Journal of Education Technology and of the European Journal of ODL, Vice-President of the European Institute for e-learning, Vice-President of EDEN - European Distance Education Network.

Daniela Edinger
She studied Educational Science, Psychology and Sociology. During and after her studies she worked in several E-Leraning projects. Now she is research assistant in two E-learning-projects funded by the EU at the University of applied sciences - Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart, Germany. Her research interests are motivational aspects of (e-)learning.



Denise Haywood
Research Assistant in the Faculty of Education, the University of Edinburgh. My work on evaluating the effectiveness of using ICT in learning situations and surveying university student and staff skills and attitudes across Europe, has led to an interest in the effects that e-learning has on individuals and in particular on the nature of informal support.



Dr. Jeff Haywood
He is a member of the academic staff of the School of Education, University of Edinburgh, having moved from there from the Faculty of Medicine in 2000 as his biological sciences research finally gave way to a firmer interest in educational research. He is currently Director of Flexible Learning and of the University Media & Learning Technology Service, Chair of the Coimbra Group Taskforce on Open and Distance Learning, and a member of Universitas 21's working party on ICT in learning and teaching.

Over the past five years he has held grants from the Scottish Education Funding Councils to develop and deliver a variety of learning technology materials under TLTP, UMI and the C&IT Programmes, acting as project leader of two (MARBLE and SCWEIMS). His research focusses mainly on the evaluation of large national, international or institutional ICT initiatives (as leader of the teams which evaluated used of TLTP materials for HEFCE and LTDI for SHEFC, and a member of an EU-funded project to evaluate institutional ICT strategies); and on students' attitudes towards and experiences of ICT during their undergraduate years.

Fiona Littleton
She is a full time doctorate student in the Faculty of Education, in the University of Edinburgh working with Jeff Haywood and Hamish Macleod, who are both involved with the SIG-GLUE project. She began her doctorate in Edinburgh in November 2003 and is due to complete it in early 2007. Her main research area is "the impact of new media (specifically videogames) on students' approaches to learning and study and attitudes towards higher education". Other research interests include digital game based learning, the effectiveness of digital game based learning within business education and all aspects of popular culture (tv, film, media, internet).
She was born in County Clare, in the Republic of Ireland. She studied Commerce (specialising in Management Information Systems) from 1996 to 1999, and then continued on to study Management Science in 2000, all within University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. On completing her degree and masters, she stayed with UCD where she lectured in Probability and Management Science for over a year, before managing the implementation of all e-teaching and e-learning initiatives in the UCD Business Schools (undergraduate and postgraduate), over the next two years.

Mats Brate
Born 11 may 1961 in Lycksele, Sweden MFA, University College of Arts Crafts and Design, Stockholm 1995 Artist, painter. Teacher in painting and drawing at Ölands Folkhögskola, Ölands Skogsby, Sweden since 1997. Design program coordinator at Ölands folkhögskola since 1999.





Dr. Hamish Macleod
Senior Lecturer, Department of Higher and Community Education, member of the TLA Centre, the University of Edinburgh. My research interests include the development and use of learning technologies in higher education, and in the cultivation and measurement of "IT fluency" among undergraduate groups; the psychological and social impact of computing and information technologies; gender as a factor in determining engagement with, and attitudes towards, technology, and in the use of computer-mediated communications in support of teaching and learning.

Michela Moretti
Michela Moretti, born in Alfonsine (RA), Italy, 03/02/65. She took a degree in Educational Science (Pedagogy) at University of Bologna in 1988. She is the head of the Unit .Evaluation and training design. of SCIENTER, a non-profit research organisation active in the field of innovation of education and training systems. In particular she is involved at national and European levels in projects focused on: assessment of ODL and elearning materials, quality of ODL and eLearning services, pedagogy of ODL and elearning, quality assessment of innovative projects which employ ICT in the process of teaching and learning. She is member of EDEN NAP.

Ari Narhi
M.SSc., Journalism and Mass Communication 1990, University of Tampere.
He has been working as a senior lecturer in web media in the Tampere Polytechnic since November 1999 teaching game design and production, interface design, concept design, web project management, web design, streaming media and web journalism among other things. His professional experience in interactive media consists of working as a New media designer in the second largest media company in Finland, Alma Media, in 1996-1999 focusing on web design, concept design, interface design and information architecture and on working as a planner in Tampere University Institute for Extension Studies 1994-1996 planning multimedia and internet related courses. Publications: Pelituotannon ammatillinen koulutus (Vocational education in game production), HAMK - Hame Polytechnic 2003.

DI Dr. Maja Pivec (Project Co-ordinator)
Her research is focused on game based learning, adaptable e-learning systems, knowledge management, and multimedia knowledge modules. For her research achievements Maja Pivec received in the year 2001 Herta Firnberg Award (Austria) in the field of computer science. She was involved in the international learning standard development carried out within the IEEE LTSC committee.



Anastasia Sfiri
She studied Psychology and Human Communication and Computing. Her work in the Centre for Multimedia and Learning in FH JOANNEUM involves research and development activities in the fields of computer supported collaborative learning, games-based learning and human computer interaction, as well as the project management of SIG-GLUE and UniGame projects.



Andreas Behmel
Andreas Behmel studied architecture at the Technical University of Graz. In parallel he worked in various architectural offices. From 1995 to 2002 he worked as a freelance architect, designer and graphic designer (3D, Print, Web). In a free-lance architectural office, where people worked both individually and in teams for bigger projects, his central interest has been the application of architecture on other areas. Besides the standard architectural competencies on architectural projects, interior design and design, emphasis was given to architecture-based graphics, computer animations and new media. Since February 2002 he works in the CML at the FH Joanneum in Austria in the areas of media design, content development and the coordination of the technical aspects of project development.



Prof. Dr. Frank Thissen
Teaches Multimedia Didactics and Information Design at University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart - Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart, Germany. His research focus is on emotional factors of eLearning and interface design. Before his occupation at university he worked for the german companies SIEMENS and SAP, where he worked on computer based training, online help and knowledge management.



Behnn Edvinsson
4 years at the university for teachers training (1969 - 1972), 5 years at the Royal Academy  for Fine Art in Stockholm (painter) (1971-1976). Wrote books for children (published five books on Rabén and Sjögren). Produced five 30-minutes TV-programs for children (Swedish channel TV 2) (built on my text and drawings). Expert at the National School board  working with  culture and democracy questions (1976 - 1992). Worked as a teacher at Ölands folk high school (1976 - 1993). Developed several interactive IT programs for the Swedish schools (11 productions, the most famous are The Viking Village and The Election). I worked in an experimental group at the National School board called DOS-groups. (1988-1993) Headmaster at Ölands folk high school,  since 1993  Member of the board of the Swedish authority for distance education DISTUM . Since 1999 Member of the strategy group for the national Folkbildningsrådet Member of the leading group for the country government . Active artist with exhibitions in The National museum in Lithuania.



Vaggelis Kapoulas
Vaggelis Kapoulas is a Computer Engineer. He obtained his diploma from the Computer Science and Engineering Department, School of Engineering, University of Patras (Greece). He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the same department. He is, currently, Head of Research Unit 6: "Networks Telematics and New Services" at Research Academic Computer Technology Institute - CTI (Greece). His research interests include Networks, Telematics and Algorithms for Distributed Systems. He has extended professional experience in the Analysis and Design of Networks, Applications of Networks, Telematic Applications, Open & Distance Learning and Tele-working. He has participated in numerous EC funded and national R&D projects. He has published more than 40 research papers in various well-known refereed conferences and more than 10 research papers in scientific journals.



Apostolos Gkamas
Apostolos Gkamas obtained his Diploma, Master Degree and Ph.D from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of Patras University (Greece). He is currently an R&D Computer Engineer at the Research Unit 6 of the Research Academic Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece. His research interests include Computer Networks, Telematics, Distributed Systems, Multimedia and Hypermedia. More particular he is engaged in transmission of multimedia data over networks and multicast congestion control. He has published 10 papers in international Journals and 28 papers in well-known refereed conferences. He is also co-author of two books (one with subject Multimedia and Computer Networks and one with subject Special Network Issues). He has participated in R&D projects such as OSYDD, RTS-GUNET, ODL-UP, ODL-OTE, TODAYS STORIES, ATMNet, "Technical Consultant to Pedagogical Institute", ELECTRA, ASP-NG (ASP-New Game - IST-2001-35354), 6NET (LARGE-SCALE INTERNATIONAL IPv6 TESTBED – IST-2001-32603) and Teleteaching Service for Greek PTT and is currently involved in projects IPv6 – GRNET, SIG-GLUE (Special Interest Group for Game-based Learning for Universities and lifElong Learning - Agreement No: 2003-4704/001-001 EDU ELEARN) and N2 (Multi-Gigabit European Academic Network – Contract Number: 511082-).



Vassilis Poulopoulos
Born in Kalamata, Greece in 1982. In 2000 he entered the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Patras University (Greece). He obtained his diploma on July 2005 and he is a member of Research Unit 6 of CTI since December 2001. He is responsible for the management of the web sites of RU6. His basic fields of interest are : ASP, PHP (mysql) and JSP(oracle) language programming, HTML, XML programming, C and Java programming, Web Technologies, Data Mining, Information Extraction, Web Personalization. He has participated in three projects (ASP-NG, Broadband Promotion, SIG-GLUE).
